Five hours well spent: short games I actually finished

April 18, 2026 · Markus Feldmann

My backlog is a graveyard of huge games I'll never complete. Lately I've been drawn to the opposite — tight little experiences that end before they overstay their welcome.

Skybound Relics is the poster child. It's maybe five hours, has no combat, and left me genuinely satisfied. There's a confidence in a game that knows exactly how long it wants to be.

Short doesn't mean shallow. A focused adventure often has better pacing than a bloated one, because every screen has to earn its place. Nothing is padded to hit an arbitrary length.

If you've got a stack of unfinished games, I'd gently suggest a palate cleanser: pick something small, actually reach the credits, and enjoy the rare feeling of completing something.
